A bit of a milestone today as I surpassed 100 cave dives.

With only myself and my newest intro level cave buddy in attendance, we made some short dives with limited penetration. Vis was slightly improved from last week, but with 15-25 feet it was still less than normal. Temp in open water was 45* with the normal 48-50 in the mine. The 60* + air temperatures made things very comfortable topside.

Congrats either way, but is that 100 total or 100 since receiving your Full Cave cert?

Are you in Abe Davis Award territory?

No. 100 total. I made 51 dives at the intro level; still need almost 50.

Thanks.

Do you have the 10 different systems as well? I know you spent quite a bit of time in Florida, but not sure where all you went.

I'd be willing to bet he has the 10. If not, he has another 50 dives to pick up whatever few he may need to achieve that.

Assuming that all of Peacock counts as one system, I've dived in 8 different systems. Like TS said, plenty of time to branch out a little.

Most, including me, count it as at least 3 systems:

Peacock I, Orange Grove, and P3. They are all separate entrances in different locations, and definitely of very different character from each other. Whether to count the Peanut tunnel as separate from Peacock I is more questionable, but many do.

For that matter, some folks don't believe mines should be counted as caves. I counted Oronogo as one of mine, listed it on the log I submitted, and there was no question. I didn't need it as one of the 10 systems, since by then I had 13 or 14 systems, but I did count the dives, about a dozen as I recall. The mines certainly require the same skills and techniques as a cave, and are rock--though I would hesitate to call someone who ONLY dived mines a cave diver, since you are not admiring and exploring a natural formation and geologic wonder.

Yes the PSSP can be counted as 3 differnat locations. That is if you used P1, P2, and Orange.

For us up here it is not just geting the locations but geting the dives since we have a shorter dive season. Just remember, minumum of a 30 minute BT Deco time does not count and it the count can only start after you ahve your full cave certification.

Shorter dive season? Still 12 months in a year, isnt there?

True but when you look at what the differant seasons bring us for conditions and how easy it is to get rained out, unliike down there are almost atleast a few that are still divable if rain is in one area and not the other.
