Me and buddy Mike got to Mermet about 2 yesterday afternoon. For some reason, he decided it would be a good idea to take his dry gloves off, and just go with his other gloves. We did one dive, lef by Mermets own Dave Trinka, it was about 40 minutes. Dropped down from the deep dock, cut across to the inner wall, and followed it all the way to the 727. We swam through the plane, then straight to the ambulance, and then over to the near side wall. We followed that to the 65 foot platform, and started our ascent. About 20 feet up, Dave jumped over to a line that runs back to the primary dock. We followed that line in and completed our saftey stop there. Vis was pretty mucked up from other people being in the water. Best vis was between 50 and 80 foot on the walls, probably 10-20 foot. After the dive, Mike decided that his hands had got too cold, and wanted to call it a night.
This morning, neither of us seemed to be in a hurry to leave the comfort of the hotel room, but we finally got to Mermet about 9am. We kind of walked around and talked to people we hadnt seen in a while, wished them all a new year, and so on. This also allowed Mike to put his dry gloves back on. We finally got in the water about noon. The same time the televised splash occured on the primary dock. Not being ones for attention, we slipped below the surface from the deep dock. This time we was joined my Chris W. (Wally, here on the board.) We went down to the 85 foot platform, then pretty much repeated the previous days dive, except when we got to the 65 foot platform, I checked everyones air(I was in doubles, they was in singles)Every one was good, so I slowly ascended while swimming down the near side wall, finishing the dive at around 35 minutes at the deep dock where we started. Mike hasnt been diving in a while, and he said he was done. Me and Chris decided to jump back in for one more before heading back. We again went down on the 85 foot platform, and swam over to the 100 foot platform. Vis here was maybe 5 foot in a good spot. The 500 I wrote in the silt a few weeks ago to celebrate dive number 500 was still very readable on the platform, that was kind of cool. We swam back to the 85 foot platform, and stayed on the near wall until we got to the 65 foot platform. Then we cut across the center of the quarry towards the inner wall again. Mike had said on the previous dive he was the pike over there, so we wanted to check it out. About 20-30 foot away from the boxcar, we found the pike. We sat there looking at it for a minute or two, and then decided to head back to the dock. I had slipped into deco while looking at the pike. Once that cleared, we surfaced on the main dock, and packed up and came home.
Water temp was 50 degrees on the surface, and normal 44-46 every where else.
