Ok, I know it's the "Big NO NO" to solo, but really - have you done it anyways?

I'll admit it, I've done it.

Often. But with advisable redundancies of gear, and after having had a great deal of experience and training in solo problem-solving.

Occasionally, not often. The advice about redundancy, training and experience bear repeating. Solo diving is not a casual thing.

Have done it in the past, but won't do it again.

I am glad to have given you the opportunity to practice your solo diving problem solving. And, thanks again for diving with me :-D

Yes, I do dive solo and will do so again. But I also dive doubles and/or bailout bottle when I do. I also have backup inflation, and extra everything. Some agencies do have a solo certification and some dive operators/charter service will allow solo if you have the cert. Since you don't have a buddy when solo, you carry all your buddies gear with you for redundancy. Except you can't take his brain, and that is probably the most important part.

yes - but not too often. I prefer to dive with someone but if my choice is dive alone or not at all....I'll dive alone. I would make sure someone knew my dive plan before I went.

LOL! You are NOT a diving problem. I'll dive with you any time and will consider you an asset to the dive plan. Fer sure, fer sure.

I dove solo once in Lake Michigan. My buddy decided to hang out with the Russians instead of diving.

This will never go away, will it?
I guess it's payback for the neverending pizza jokes.
Enjoy the weather, I'm off to the Keys tomorrow.:D

I didnt mention any names.
Yes, it is payback.

Enjoy the trip. Make sure to run a line this time if you go into the wreck again. No getting lost this time.

This time I'll end up on a Cuban fishing boat.

I'm taking a reel and diving with the same buddy again.
I'll probably end up on a Cuban fishing scow.

Geez, am I the only one here that doesn't solo? ;)

There are enough solo divers here, that we ought to start a solo diving club. We can meet at your convenience, whenever you happen to dive solo. :D

ohh yeah, what everyone else said- grave responsibilities, redundancies, dive planning, and wear clean underwear, just in case. :D

Does a 130 foot bounce on a fin recovery not count as a solo dive?:D

I have neither the equipment nor the training to dive solo, so I don't. However I do frequently solo on the tenor sax.:D

No kidding! My brother plays the sax. He was in the Army band. He said they played their hakoli's off.

I've been playing professionally for 40 years (gasp!), but my hakoli's still intact. Whatever that means.

When I dive solo, in the strict sense of the word I stay shallow, makeing my redundant air supply the surface.

Most DM's dive solo at one point or another. Running lines, placing rescue decoys, etc. And unless they always use an assistant, pretty much all instructors dive solo, or actually worse. An instructor in the water with students is not only soly responsible for his own well being but he also has to deal with any personal emergencies AND get his students out of the water safely at the same time.

It would have been but Dave quickly threw out the marker and the fin was pretty close to it. Thanks again to the quick crew of the Enterprise.

I'm already looking foward to next season. Hope Dale's back is healed up, Dave was running around like a one-armed paper hanger, and that's got to get old.
