I had the pleasure of tagging along Saturday while scububa completed his IANTD Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures training dives with SLIM. Congratulations, scububa!

Then stayed over to make a couple Sunday dives with scububa for fun and to practice skills some more.

Water temp was 57 F at the surface, with the thermocline somewhere between 70 and 80 ft. deep. The deep temp was 48-50 F. Viz varied from 10-20 ft. with the better viz being on Sunday when the surface was calm (Saturday was windy with choppy water). Most of the fish were hanging out at about 50 ft. deep, inluding some Blue Catfish, Striped Bass, Bluegill, and Croppie.

All our dives had a max depth of 110-140 ft., and though we dived deco profiles on the ascents, we made our bottom times short enough that our computers never required any deco stops of us. We also carried deco stages with us and breathed them at our 20 ft. "safety" stops for the practice in making gas switches and to be kind to our bodies during our repetitive deep dives.

Our skill practice included deploying lift bags,
removing and replacing fins ;)
gas sharing drills, valve drills, and managing a stage bottle.

I enjoyed excellent relaxing dives, got to check out SLIM's home fill station, and finally got to meet and dive with scububa and meet his family as well. A great weekend.

Very pleasurable weekend, but then when you get to dive with SLIM and theskull, how could it not be.

I am afraid my new handle may become Nemo, given how I flail around with one flipper trying to engage my other. I may have to start charging admission for the show ;-)

Seriously, though, the diving, the education, and the comaraderie were fantastic. The dives were excellent all in all. Of my six deep dives overall (2 from a couple of weeks ago to begin the class), I think I only turded things up significantly on one. On the other hand, I realize I have a whole new set of skills to practice for a while.

SLIM has been a champ with feeding me information, instructing me on my configuration(s), and going above and beyond as a quality instructor. He has a keen and critical eye, but delivers the message with complete objectivity. I really enjoy the whole time. And since my whole family knows SLIM, it is always a fun get together.

And, it was a GREAT pleasure to meet theskull, Bill. And on top of being a very nice guy and obviously incredible diver, he was a great dive buddy and was gracious enough to practice skills with me. So, first I had a chance to see it done correctly and then got a chance to try it.

And, I passed all the check marks for my Advanced EANx. I know I have a long way to go, but I already feel an increase in my confidence as a diver.

Thanks for a GREAT weekend, gentlemen.

I thought Helium was the gateway drug, and Oxygen was the cure . . .

In any case, I got my required dose of Nitrogen to make me civil for another week!
