What a perfect weekend for diving! Kurt and I spent Sunday and Monday up in Milwaukee with friends, diving off the Enterprise, which Dave & Dale move north each Labor Day.

On Sunday, we had a group of Great Lakes newbies who were treated to some of the best conditions I've ever seen. The lake was nearly flat and water temps hovered around 70 degrees. Vis wasn't too bad considering the warmth either - 25+. My friend Matt & I made a nice leisurely dive on the Willie, checking out the engine room, upper cabins, and stern cabins. It was so warm I didn't even bother w/gloves. Wow. Kurt took the new guys on a tour, as they were doing a wreck speciality. Everyone was very impressed with the Willie.

Next on the menu was the Dredge #6. Last year I'd found a cabinet that I couldn't quite get to, but Matt & I were able to wend our way to it and check it out this year. Very cool - it was full of pipe fittings and burbot. :) We also checked out the coal room and found tons of floating lights bulbs under the wreck, some still with light fixtures attached.

We stayed overnight at the Hilton (thank you Priceline) and had some crummy hamburgers and good beers.

Monday afternoon we were back on the boat to do the Carferry. More tech diver friends joined us for this trip. We were again treated to a flat lake and unusually warm water temps - the thermocline was at about 105", temps 70 above and 64 below. Not to shabby. We spent 30 minutes circumventing the wreck and checking out the wheelhouse, and then spent almost as long hanging on the line. Overall, a heck of a great weekend - the only thing lacking was Dale's presence. Dale, we miss ya.
