If anyone is interested in a cave dive, three of us are planning to be at RBD this coming Fri and Sat 8/4-8/5. We'll watch the water data for a couple more days before making a final decision to go. If RBD doesn't fly, we'll be at Cannonball Fri, as it is looking pretty good.

I am just a beginning cavern diver, so maybe I am off base here...
but, I thought that the flow data for RBD was not a very accurate indicator of the spring flow. ????The guage is too far from the spring and other surface flow variables mask the impact from the spring???? Or, something to that effect.
Anyway, just wondered. And, hope it turns out good for you all. If you get any confirming reports, post please. I was thinking about going to the cavern on Sunday.

I believe you are correct. However, other than first-hand observation, the water data is all we have to go on. I think most cave divers use the data as a "rough" indicator of what to expect.
I have very little experience in that system. It's "over my head" as to exactly how the data relates to the conditions in the cave. Maybe someone else will jump in and give their 2cents.
I wish Slim would just drive over there and jump in and give me a report.

I bet that's not the first time someone has told SLIM to "go jump in a lake"

(I see he hasn't posted in about a week. Maybe I better give him a call and check in on him. Must by muy busy at the lake.)
I think we should get a grant from DNR to install a web cam.

Right, the water data has a relationship to the cave conditions, but not enough to make a definite call. And the flow still doesn't tell you what the turbidity (clarity) of the water is.
SLIM has an acquaintance in town who will often take a walk down to the spring and take a look at it for him when we are in doubt and phone in the report.
Doug made a favorable conditions report on Cannonball this weekend, and the 2 systems tend to have similar conditions due to being in the same weather plane, so I would expect this week to be good for you.

Sorry for the delay in reporting conditions. The wireless high-speed at the Days Inn in Waynesville didn't work with my laptop. I'll post a more detailed report after I get settled.
Vis 10'-12'. Daylight from the entrance can be seen from 33' deep in the cavern. Little to no flow. Water temp 60*.
