Can anyone give me some input on underwater digital cameras? I am wanting to buy one, but not a $3,000 one. Unless you tell me that is the only ones worth a darn.

Been looking at a Sea Life ReefMaster. Their newst one, I think you can get a kit with extra strobe, lens, case, and more for like a grand or just under.

I just bought a Fuji F10 with a Fuji housing - the gem of this camera is the high ISO settings that are available. It also is said to take 500 pictures on one charge which is nice. I've taken about 500 pictures with it and am on the second charge. $500 buys it, the housing and a 1 gig card. For point and shoot cameras I think it's a good buy.

You may be able to get a better deal than I did. Their new model the F30 is due out I think in June. It will offer some more features along with an ISO 3200 setting.

A good choice to start would be a camera by Saelife or Sea & Sea. They are priced for the "entry" level and do a good job. However, they don't offer a lot of flexibility. If your going to step into the world of camera & housing combos, the Oly SP-350 / Ikelite is the way to go. The SP-350 has TTL (good) but has a slow shutter that takes some practice. As Cathy Church said "get close, use a wide angle lens, and use an external strobe". Let me know if you want any more info.

Another good one to look at is the Canon Powershot SD550, runs about $350.00 and the case is a WP-DC 80 Waterproof that's about $160.00. The prices all depend on were you look. I havn't dove with it but we use for our Hazmat team and have soaked it with the fire hose, soaked it in bleach and it hasn't leaked yet. It's suppose to be good to 130'

I dont know a lot about cameras, but I know I didnt care for my DC310 too much. Seemed after every dive I had to change out the batteries. I now own the the Sea&Sea DX-750G. I used it on my second trip to the Oriskany with the wide angle lens, and was very pleased with it. After my Bonaire trip, I have relaly fallen in love with this camera. I was doing up to 3 dives with it, taking MANY pictures, and I never lost a cell of battery life. I always put in new rechargeables after 3 dives just to play it safe, but I cant say enough about how pleased I am with it.
