The dive boat, Enterprise, will be going out to the SS Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. If you want to get wet give me a call.

Hi Dale - how the heck are ya?

Wish I could go - I've been fighting w/an ear problem for a while now. Looks like I'll be dry until this resolves. There's something wrong w/my middle ear that's causing vertigo - they keep telling me it should go away on it's own soon but... I'm still waiting. Hmmph.

That truly sucks. I'm planning to go out w/Dale on Memorial day weekend. If you're OK sure would be fun to dive again.
Hmmmmmmmm?

Hiya Ken -

I really can't make any plans until this clears up. It's actually been going on for about 6 weeks now... you see my dilemma. And yep, it does suck. But Kurt's been having a little fun with me (of course) - I'm now a "dizzy broad". :)

I will truly be pissed if I miss most of dive season because of this.

:(

I've been fighting ear problems for 2 years. Cold water and lots of ups and downs (can you say DM/Instructor) seems to set it off. I've been searching for an ENT who has a clue about diving, but so far, no luck. People keep saying there are diving literate doctors out there, but I'm still searching....

For now, I "break the rules" and take a 24 hour Sudafed at least 3 hours before getting into cold water... It seems to do the trick. During my IDC I forgot once...had to endure the pain of not equalizing in a 13 foot pool...how embarassing...

Well, I actually have a dive-literate allergist... if I find a dive-literate ENT I'll let you know. I just hope this goes away before I actually NEED to find a specialist...

The Dr. said my eustachion tubes are swollen shut and my middle ear is full of fluid - it's not infected at this point but it's not the most fun I've ever had... would you believe that part of the cure is doing the valsalva manuever about 30 times a day to open up my ears... it's like continually diving and not being able to equalize. Not to mention that fact that I have vertigo.

I don't think a 24-hour Sudafed is "breaking the rules" - I mean, it would be a problem if the medication wore off while you're under, but with a 24-hour pill that's not terribly likely... or of course if you took something that would impair you under pressure...

My daughter's swim lesson today focused on floating on the back. Most small children don't like that...water in the ears from that position gives them vertigo. Audrey's the youngest in the class and the only one who would do it...she's got her parents gene's, Mom and Dad both love the water.

That's my theory as well. I figure I've got protection for many hours after the dive but offically...

Of course when I lived in Atlanta, I only had alergies about 2 months a year...but in the alergy capitol of the world.... St Louis is an interesting place. You can't walk a mile without being withing spitting distance from a hospital, and there is a reason, Times Beach, radioactive dumping, a lot of lead paint, fireworks companies, and mold out the wazoo (they had to close the lower floor of the airport because of deadly mold), lead mining, etc..., it's not a healthy place to live...

This guy is an ENT who knows about diving. He did an instructor friend's deviated septum a couple years ago.

That is one way to get James up to the Chicagoland area!

Doesn't DAN keep a list of qualified/expierenced doc's?

DAN doesn't post a listing on their web site. You have to either call them or fill out a form on line requesting the info. But the guy I posted isn't listed by DAN (at least the last time I asked them). So I don't know how up to date it is. DAN relies on diving ENT's to contact them for referrals.
