I was in the LDS yesterday and we got talking about a dive site in Effingham IL. Someone came in the store telling them about it last week but knew very little about it. Anybody have any addition info? Supposedly it is owned by a local police officer.

Might be referring to the Brickyard Quarry. http://www.omniscuba.com/ .

A decent place to practice low viz diving.

Looks like it is at least worth one dive. Did I miss how much entry fees are?

They don't seem to say. I get the impression that you have to get in touch with that shop to get in. I'm going to email them.

I asked about fees, rules, et. They got back to me with this:

Ken,
Its not a good time for the quarry, spring run off has limited vis. I would recommend in the summer, so as not to waste the time and effort.

Yep. It was about this time of year that I dived it, and the viz was about 6-8 inches. They mainly use it to train PSD S&R divers, so they LIKE the low visibility. Enty fee was $5 each a couple years ago when I dived it. Haven't been in a hurry to go back.

Can't be much worse than the lake that I was certified in. There are spots that you can't see your hand inf front of your face, literally. The weird part is that it is like a pocket that you swim in and out of.
