Things that make you go hmmmm....

Notice the fins this Navy EOD diver is wearing. Then look at the gauges, octo, etc.

The Navy also has divers that use brass helmets and boots. Use the tools you need - the diver in the photo isn't going on a combat mission, he's going to be swimming for an extended period in relatively shallow water examining the hulls of ships. He needs his fins to be efficient, to conserve energy. With little need for precision and control or for bursts of speed, his choice of a split fin over a JetFin is probably a good one.

As to the console, I suppose it just goes to demonstrate that even Navy divers aren't always squared away. Either that or the photo is an April Fools joke...

What a stroke!

Only joking. He isn't going cave diving. I'm with reefraff. If the gear is safe and works for the dive you have planned, then it's good. I have a number of dive buddies who dive with this or a similar configuration--again, not in an overhead environment.

I doubt he really cares what they'll think of him when his photo gets posted on scubaboard!! He's doing real work in the real world and diving all the time.

There is a really cool site where the Navy posts the "released" photos from all over. I could see pics of my son's ship at Iwo Jima, and the LCAC's leaving the ship when they were helping after the landslide in the Phillipines. I check the site every few days. There are also awesome pictures of carriers and fighter jets, etc. This was just one I noticed and as a diver, I evaluated. I am not knocking the fins. I was just surprised. It is no April Fools Day joke. If anyone is interested here is the link:

But it does look like he is diving a Zeagle Ranger.
I would say that the console is a Suunto.

No spring straps!?? That guy is gonna die diving like that. :D
