Blackbeards

Has anyone been on a Blackbeards trip? I am thinking about doing this, but am looking for opinions. Thanks.

I have not, but I know several people that have. The people I know that have gone, really liked their trips and think you get good bang for the buck.

We have looked at Blackbeard's numerous times and there is one thing that keeps us from going with them. We can only afford about one trip a year and the lack of privacy on their boats makes us consistantly opt to go elsewhere. I suppose if I were travelling with one of my kids or a friend or had the luxury of more trips per year, I would try them out.

I went on a Blackbeard's trip in 95. We had a really good time and it is a great value. However, space is REALLY TIGHT. You have virtually no storage (except your berth) for non-diving personal items. You have to change in the berth. This would not be the boat to use if you were the least bit claustophobic. I was fortunate to go with one group that took up most of the boat. It would be really tough if you were on the boat with strangers that you didn't get along with.

Have you been on a lake houseboat trip? Same idea, but with better food and much better diving. Excellent value for the money. This is an excursion for diving. No luxuries. It's eat, dive, eat, nap, dive, etc. And only 3 or 4 dives per day since it's a slow-moving sailboat and there is no Nitrox to help with repetitive deep dives. Great crews and lots of fun if you want Bahamas live-aboard boat dives that normal people can afford.

I have wanted to do the Blackbeard trip but not with my gang they aren't hardy enough. A live aboard is the only way to go for a drive trip IMHO.
