Hi folks! Glad to be a part of this forum and group. I live in Oldham County and have Fallen Rock about 1/2 mile as the crow flies. After wanting to be certified for many years, I was able to get there last spring. My checkouts were of course at Joe's. My swim buddy and I made a trip to Mermet before the end the summer. Besides some snorkeling, that sums my experience to date.

My partner relocated, so I'm hoping to link up with some folks close and at least stay in practice until I can afford to try some different places! I look forward to conversing with everyone. Thanks to steve2281 for putting me onto the site.

Glad you came over from the "other" board, Kenny. This board doesn't get near the action as Scubaboard, but we have a "quality" group here, IMHO. Check back often. Steve

I'm the quality, this is as good as it gets.:D

Be sure to post when you're going to be at Mermet (or anywhere else). You'll meet a lot of good folks on this board.

Actually, if you take away the "which backplate/wing should I buy", "mask on forehead OK?", and "is it DIR to use blue bungee cord to make your necklace" noise, and just look for diving opportunities and sincere answers to real questions -- we have every bit as much action here in the MidWest!

Welcome, dude. Come diving with us soon.

And you have also now met Ken... :D

You might also want to look into Cerulean and Penny Royal as diving spots. Both offer some really good dives.

Welcome to the board.

Hey Kenny, we meet again.

He lives about 1/2 mile as the crow flies from Joe's aka Falling Rock. This just sucks. :D Should be a law that says you must drive at least 1 hour to dive.

Hey - I'm just hoping my wife will let me out some this summer to play in the "pool in the backyard"! (Actually she's pretty good about that.) But you know what they say about things in your own backyard and how they are appreciated! I am hoping to have some new equipment to try this year and plan on hitting Cerulean and Penny Royal as soon as I can. I'll be looking for notes on dive plans and posting when I go. Hopefully, I'll get to meet some or all! I'll be looking at some dates to meet a friend from Illinois at Mermet. I'll be sure to warn you guys that frequent there.

Thanks for the welcomes!

BTW Ken - you don't happen to know a diver there that goes by Fitz, do you?

I had thought about doing a meet and greet at Bonne Terre this spring but it's a little too complicated to do that.

Should we plan another location for a spring MWD meet and greet? We had a paltry showing for the last so I want to know if there is real interest?

There is always real interest! Coordinating calendars is the challenge, with a great number of us also teaching for various shops and planning cool dive trips of our own. Hope you can schedule one I can attend.

Mabye someplace more centrally located? The only one that comes to mind is Haigh. What is close to St. Louis?

Only things close to STL are Rolla and Bonne Terre :(

But TBL is only like about 4 hours from St Louis. That would be a good place then there is so much for the ones that come in the family that are non divers.
hint hint hint hint

Don't forget the other side of the group - to the west and north (KS and NE)

For us and maybe not the NE folks - TRL is about as centrally located as we get.

Depending upon where and when I am interested.

Ken are you having an identity crisis? You change faces more than Michael Jackson

TRL is fine with me, but I am tired of diving at the dam. Are there any other good shore diving locations?

Maybe we shoudl start a new thread with this, and get this one back to welcoming the Kentucky Newbie.
