Comming soon to a forum near you
I'll be opening a new forum soon... for professional divers. This forum will be open to all divers who get paid to dive or work in the dive industry: DM's, Instructors, PSD divers, Commercial Divers, Dive Shop owners, Dive Shop workers, etc, etc, etc....
If you have any ideas for such a forum, please post them here.

Juls, thanks for the link...I'll definatly spend some time there but I'm not worried about a site too cheap to spend $10 to buy a domain name ;)
TH, grat sub forums ideas. I'll keep them in my back pocket. One big nono in starting a board is to have a lot of empty forums. Best thing is to wait for content in "general" forums and create new ones, moving conent to them as demand increases. Empty forums make a site look bad, but those are great suggestions, including the last one which you posted as a joke, but I take seriously.
Big shops would do well to have their own board. My shop has a private area for staff that is a little lame...any big shop could benifit from their own board. Keeping your customers invovled is never a bad thing!
For those of you wondering where the new board is...it's coming soon. I've been working with a professional designer to make it look good...hopefully better than I've done here...let's face it I can program my way out of a box but I'm not much of an artist!

P.S. I also think that insurance and liabilty will eventually get their own forums

I think this board looks good! I know you are the pro though and have certain expectataions.
I have definitely learned a thing or two about websites. One, I started mine for dive club. A purely novice board, but I keep our event schedule up to date and it serves its purpose. People seem to find their way there, because I get inquiries from new people about once a month. That is great because we aren't a business or anything.
Our dive shop on the other hand, got a new website as part of a college class project. While it looked nice out of the gate, it is a PITA IMO. I was only invited to one of the meetings about it, and really try to stay away from the thing. I wish I could just set up one of my unprofessional sites with FrontPage. It might not be pretty, but I could control everything with it and keep it all up to date. The one our shop has now is too complicated, needs too many people involved to updated it. No KISS principle was involved. I think I hit the nail on the head in a previous sentence. Its all about control. isn't it?:p
