Cerulean Springs came to the rescue for me and DeepDiverBob when we discovered late yesterday that Mermet would be closed today. . . 2 vehicles full of tanks, hotel room booked, hundreds of miles driven . . . need to dive! . . . need to dive now!
A quick phone call to Cerulean yesterday was met with an enthusiastic, "Sure, we'll open for the 2 of you tomorrow morning!"
:)
No disappointment in the diving either, fer sure, fer sure. We had 50 ft. visibility according to the owner. Bob thought it might have been only 40 ft. I was enjoying the view too much to try to discern that last 10 feet of viz. :) Water temp was 45 F and the fish were definitely out swimming around. An excellent morning of diving!
Happy now.

Fantasitc!!!!
That is what I call customer service! Reminds me of a dining experience I had last week. At the end I aksed the waiter to speak to the manager. When he came out I said: "I know you mostly get bad news, but I wanted to tell you this is the best service we have had in years...".
I'll reward that effort by stickying the CS link to the top for a while in our links....

That's great. I've been going to CS for 10 years and every year Dave moans and groans indicating that he may close down. I just received the annual post card from CS so it looks like they'll be open this year. I hope to take several trips there with students this year.

Always glad to see sometihng like this instead of the usual " we are doubling our prices" from a dive site.
Never dove Cerulean but it is in the plans for next year. I have talked to a lot of people that have been and love it.

I thought they were $15 last year? Being they have the pump I could see the extra $$

From Mermet Springs (or I guess the missouri exit before Paducah on 24) how much further is Cerulean Springs? Never been there. Anyone have pictures?

The hotel I stay at is on exit 65 in Kentucky, off of 24. Then its about a 15 minute ride to the quarry from there.
Check the gallery here on the board. I posed some pics topside from 2 years ago. I plan on getting some underwater pics this year there as well.

I've been and will not go back. It's small, shallow, and boring. I do know a lot of people who like it because of those three things! Depth is about 35 feet max, the surface area is twice the size of the actual diveable area (real shallow on the left side, around the bend). And there is very little to see.
Pennyroyal is next door, about 20 minutes further coming from TN, and 20 minutes closer coming from MO, and is about 100 times better diving!
But if you've never been before, you take the family who does not dive, and want some simple easy laid-back open water diving, well then, you may like it just fine.

A couple times a year I like to go dive local without a wet suit, and Cerulean provides that opportunity for me. Around the bend, I dont think it is any shallower than the rest of the quarry. Usually around 20 foot. There is a very shallow ridge that you need to get over though. I think it is a great place for OW classes as well. The platforms in the middle are up off the bottom, so even with fins hanging over, it doesnt get all stirred up.

Do you have an address for Pennyroyal or any details on price or a website?

Check the Penny Royal forum. I just posted the link for it over there. I didnt feel right advertising one quarry in another quarries space.
