Anybody know of a good decompression software program that can be downloaded for free, and also do repetitive dives? I would like to use this to double check my calculations for my cave class, and upcoming tec rec and trimix classes.
Thanks in advance.

Here's one I play with
www.hlplanner.com
Like I said, I just play with it. I've never used it for plannning a actual dive. It's FREE.
Dad gum Bob; deco bottles, O2 bottles, deco software??? You planning on some heavy duty dives????

I don't know if the old version of GAP (pre-RGBM) is still available online or not, but it was free. Try http://www.gap-software.com to see if you can still download it.

If you're gonna do it, why not do it all the way? Buy a copy of Decoplan from GUE. You can buy it and download it online at www.gue.com .
No, I'm not joking. It's excellent.

I was just looking for something free to check my math for me on these questions. Once I get closer to actually doing these dives, I will pay the money and get the good stuff.

Not sure you will get much benefit there. Software profiles won't give you the same answers as using tables. They have so much customization in the way of descent time, conservatism factor, ascent rate, etc. that you won't get the same answers. If you're just checking to see if you're in the right ballpark, OK, but you won't be able to verify if the 20 ft. stop should be for 7 minutes or 9 minutes for example.

There are a few and I mean a few that are free but they are not only old but also will not go very deep. All the good ones will cost you. I have Decoplanner and enjoy it. I also hear that Vplanner is very good also. The programs will not be very close to your math as you start planning longer and deper dives. There are so many variables that you have to think about. Like TS said. Do you know the time it will take to decend, will you be at a set depth before you decend? so many more that could be added in there. I would talk with your instructor and see what he likes and ask the why helilkes it so much. Once you get a programe I know many like to run 2 differnat ones to compair them. Depending on the differant information, some will get you out soonr. Also you have to decide do you want RGBM, Bulmans, Halidans or what model of algorythm it uses?
Did I get you to thinking more? Good then that is a start.

Ahh, to be more accurate, I was recommending DIR products. I really like and own a fair amount of Halcyon equipment--fortunately I got mine before they starting plastering the big blue H everywhere on their gear.
I also am a big fan of using their techniques, procedures, and gear configuration . . . as a starting point for deciding how I want mine and as a comparison against why I do things the way I do.
I am certainly not a fan of the "only one way to do things and it is the same way for all dives in all conditions" mindset or the elitist attitude. Funny thing is I have dived with some DIR-trained divers who do not have this mindset or attitude, and I have been around some divers who have adopted both the mindset and the attitude without actually having taken a single GUE class.
Have fun and dive safe (my mantra),

I know. I know you agree, and I know you know that I feel that way. But I wanted to clear it up for those of our members who don't know what you know that I know.
And, since this is all under the title of Decompression Software, I'll add that I really like the GUE Decoplan software. It is very easy to use and offers many options which are also easy to change and manipulate. And there is very good online support should you have questions.
I briefly owned the DiveRite Voyager deco software, which was also pretty good, but had zero support. When I tried to re-install it on my newer laptop it would not activate without a password, and noone from DiveRite could get one for me. It was programmed by a lone supplier, whom they have a very hard time getting in touch with. I tried repeatedly with phone calls and e-mails for a couple months to resolve the situation and eventually returned it for a refund to the shop from which I bought it.

I know this is an old thread but I would like everyone's opinion on Dplan vrs V-planner for mobile software. I was thinking about getting a new smart phone and stop carrying around my palm pilot. Any new thoughts?

If you get the iPhone you could also look into iDeco.
Here is a thread about in on scubaboard (http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/technical-diving-specialties/254566-ideco-iphone-oc-ccr-decompression-planning.html).

I really need to learn how to use Ideco better(I have an Ipod touch), but I haven't seen anything easier to range tables on then dplan, but I haven't tried either.

I agree about V-Panner. It's easy to use and combines well with the VR3 computer.

My buddies and I have planned all of our dives using DecoPlanner or Dplan, which is the mobile version. The problem we have now is that it doesn't support constant PO2 dives for rebreather planning.
If you have no intention of ever going CCR, this isn't an issue. I have seen iDeco for the iPhone and iPod touch and it seems pretty solid. For the price of some of the desktop packages you could buy iDeco and most of an iPod touch.
