Oh how I wish I could. Holidays = spending time with people you do everything in your power to avoid the rest of the year.

Maybe. I'm sure I'll dive sometime during Thanksgiving week, but not sure which day(s).

PM sent...
OK. I'm not being a smart aleck (this time). I have always wondered this, and on our friendly MW board I feel comfortable asking finally.
Why do we care? If you sent a PM to Bob, he cares but he'll see it anyway. You care but you already know you sent it. But why would the rest of us care? Why make a post telling us all that you sent him a PM?
The one place I do understand this is when someone is advertising something for sale. In that case, "PM sent" tells everyone else, "I already bought this or made an offer on it, so move along, nothing to see here". And the next post is usually, "Item sold".
Sincerely,
theskull

Uh, well, I think, but I am certainly not sure, that a user can set his options regarding whether or not he wants to be automatically notified if he gets a PM. If that is correct, a person might be likely to check the board more often than he checks his PM's, especially if he has posted in a recent thread.
Myself, I do not always log in when I check this board. If, by chance, I was checking the board without signing in, I might notice in an active thread that someone wrote "PM sent"; then, I could log in to get the message.
I never really thought about it very much before now, but if it's considered bad manners, I can resist doing it again. steve

No, no, not bad manners, fer sure.
And you give a couple excellent reasons for doing so. That's exactly what I wanted, a logical answer. And now I know. Thanks for enlightening me.
I always access the board from my own computer, so I'm automatically signed in. And I chose the setting that sends me an e-mail when I receive a PM . . . again, I'm on my own computer so I receive the e-mail immediately. This is why I could not see the point.
Thanks so much for the cordial response. I just KNOW that had I put this question up on scubaboard I would have been thrashed, ridiculed, and told to buy a backplate/wing!!!!

Nope. My shop can get DiveRite (which I currently own) and is a dealer for AquaLung, which now carries the Apeks backplates and wings.
But thanks for offering. You're way too kind.

No doubt about it.
That's why I made sure it was clear that in that one instance I was not giving my friend Steve grief.

BTW, if you get finished with your class and want to make a dive with us on Friday or Saturday, call me or just stop by Dive Outpost.

PM me your cell phone number again. We are going to try and get Intro and Apprentice done, so I dont know how much free time that will leave us, but you know me, I'm always up for a dive or five.

Please . . . please . . . please . . . don't dare me to do anything embarrassing!
That's how I ended up doing Ice Diving in Iowa -- in January -- in a borrowed drysuit -- in 6 F air temp -- when the same time on the road could have put me in Destin, FL!

I dare you to ditch the drysuit in favor of a pink dress for this weekend's dives...

I think he could get away and not wear a red dress. You did not double dog dare him. I would have to see a pic of him in that before I would beleive he wore one. Maybe if you could double dog dare him to wear a red dress in December at Cathy's one night. Then I coudl get a photo of it.

But... are you SURE that they're not selling something?
I don't know if I want to know what that might be...
