My good friend's brother and sister-in-law have (had) a condo in Cozumel at El Cantil Sur. It is a newer building next door to what was formerly Plaza Las Glorias and across the street from Chedrai (spelling?) I went with her last November and stayed at this condo. Today I received this email from my friend:
"She said the whole first floor of the condo building is wiped out. The hurricane shutters were ripped off, the water burst the windows and everything got washed out. #### said the ceiling came down, all of the contents are washed away, the refrigerator is in the street, etc. Her VW bug that was in the underground garage is crushed and the garage is flooded. She said the only thing that survived ironically is the big chandelier that is hanging out front after you go up the front steps. Remember that?
Anyway, she said she would send me some pictures via e-mail when she gets them. How depressing! Everything is insured. She said she has insurance for the contents and hurricane insurance, as well as the building having insurance. Who knows how long it will take to rebuild."
I had wondered how they fared. Now I know. All I can think is how blessed they are that that is a vacation spot. Not their "home" and all they have. Its the people that lose their "homes" that I truly feel for.
