I have only purchased trip insurance once, when all 4 of us were going on a trip that we spent big bucks for. With a group from our shop supposedly headed to Cozumel. and not knowing what will happen with that, it has me re-thinking insurance.
Wondered what other divers do:

I usually don't bother, but my wife got some for our trip to Coz scheduled for Dec. 10. Unfortunately she got the kind that only covers your airfare in a medical emergency. I think I'm screwed.

I voted never BUT that is because I never have. I am seriously thinking of getting some from here on out. I haven't done a lot of research yet - what are some of the different companies that carry it? I have always wondered exactly what is covered and what is not.

When I book one of those Apple/Funjet/etc package deals I ususally fork out the extra $70 for the insurance.
The way I prefer to travel, however is to book everything with small hotels myself. When I do that then the only upfront fee I'm out is the airfare, which can usually be moved around for a fee so no reason to buy insurance.

I don't know much about it either. The one time we got it was a big trip with Apple Vacations through a travel agent. It was put right under our noses so we took it.
Usually I travel with trips through my LDS and don't bother.
DAN does now have a travel insurance program, but I don't know specifics yet.

I bought travel insurance once, and will never do it again.
We were going to Belize, and right when we were due to leave a hurricane was heading in. When we started making noises about wanting to cancel, it was amazing how the restrictions started appearing.
Ultimately, one person did not go (and got completely screwed on their $ - no refund at all and they didn't allow another person to take the spot!!!!) - the other 3 went and ended up with a couple crummy days but fortunately no hurricane.
All I can say is, buyer beware. Read that fine print VERY carefully and don't listen to what the travel agent/salesperson tells you.

I don't go on many trips, but I my PADI insurance includes trip insurance as well (I have the platinum protection level). I believe the DAN version is an additional cost from the basic.

Travel insurance to me is like buying an extended warranty for an appliance. Occasionally someone will make use of it but chances are it would be difficult to redeem.
