Early last summer, I was in Destin Florida, doing the family thing, and we went on a dolphin cruise. There was an old man on the boat, and he was pointing out celebrity houses on the coast. We asked him about what its like to get hit by hurricanes. He said he didnt worry about them too much, because they hadnt had one in so long, they either hit southern florida, or hit further to the west. Well, we all know what happened last summer and again this year in Destin.
Now, late last summer, I was in Cozumel for the first time. We was heading out to one of the dive sits, and we was talking to our DM about hurrincanes down there. He also made the comment that it has been a long time since Coz had taken a direct hit. He did tell the story about when the last one hit (I think it was Gilbert) they let dives dive for free if they helped remove sand from the coral it was so bad. Again, we saw what happened to Coz after Emily. When I was down there a few weeks ago, I asked them if they again had brought divers down to help protect the coral, and remove tha sand. He said it wasnt that bad, and they didnt have to do anything like that. After what I am reading now, and seeing on the news and through links, this looks like it might be far worse than Emily was. I think when I go anywhere, I will stop asking about hurricanes.
