A few of you here have a lot of experience with the springs in Florida. My question is with Wilma possibly hitting them, how long would it take before they are diveable again. My Intro class is over Thanksgiving. Would they recover by then, or is it all going to depend on how hard they get hit?

I haven't been watching the news/weather today, but I thought Wilma was suppose to head toward south Fl. Might not affect the springs at all.

Wilma is 170 miles across, that's for hurricane force winds (i.e. they said on TWC there were hurricane force winds 85 miles out from the eye) OUCH. It's hitting Cozumel today AND raining on the Keys. Some of the models have it cutting across Orlando so it could dump some heavy rain on karst country.... Though most models show it weakening to a CAT2 before it hits FL.

What that will do to the caves, I don't know. I've only been diving down there once and it was clear sailing. But if I had to guess, FL gets ALOT of rain anyway and I've never heard about it being a problem....

You are asking a question that has many varaibles. The springs could be blown out for 1 day or a week. All depends on all kinds of stuff. If you are going to be doing most around the Louraville area I bet it wont take to long since it wont be a direct hit. The time you are planing on being down there is like so far off that you might not ever know unless anyone points out some damage.

Don't worry about it, just have fun and enjoy the training.

I alomst forgot. You might call your instructor and talk to them. They will know better what blows first and what clears up first. Depending on who you use and what they plan to dive can change. I would give them a week or 2 before you call or email them. Let the storm go through so that they will know what areas actually got hit.

Not a problem. When ever you have a question about a class, always ask the instructor. They will always have a answer and be albe to answer it best. What one diver thinks conditions are bad may not be bad for another. Reember FL caves have bad vis if it is less then crystal clear water. MO caves are doing crystal clear if they have 30 foot.SLIM
